floods & CFs

What a wild and crazy week this has been. Sean and I returned to Chicago on Tuesday morning at 4am and immediately turned on the news. We listened to CNN almost the entire drive home from Oklahoma. So awful and sad. 

We also drove through the craziest lightening and rain storm once we hit Illinois and came home to floods and floods of rain. It has been raining nonstop since Monday night. My commute home today was just nuts! The Chicago River was flooding into our neighborhood streets and traffic was a mess! 

Here is a photo I took on the way home of the river. Usually you have to lean over the rail to see the water like this! 

I then came up to the high school and the sidewalk was completely flooded! There was no way to get through so I had to walk up the high school's lawn, crawl over the wall and climb the stairs on both sides! Luckily there were other ladies doing the same thing and we all helped each other. 

You can see the stairs on the left and a cop trying to direct traffic. It was all a major CF and I am so lucky I walk and ride the train for my commute.

still sicky

Why do I still have this dumb cold!? I was feeling much better before our Houston weekend trip and then Sunday night I was super sick again. Blerg...I am hoping once I get some full time rest this weekend I will be ready to rock and roll on Monday! So I'm just posting pics today from our weekend in Houston. The wedding was beautiful and Hotel ZaZa was soooooo much fun. Great hotel! It was wonderful to see all my girls and spend 3 FULL days with my handsome man! Happy weekend loves!

cold | to | wedding

I have had the worst cold for the past week! It has totally put me behind on everything from working to blogging to exercising! Luckily I didn't have that big of an appetite but still! Grrrrr... But I guess it is kind of nice to hunker down on the couch for a week with some hot tea and watch lots of TV. I discovered Downton Abbey and The United States of Tara. Two very addicting new shows that I love, love, love!

Now I have to shop and pack like mad the next two days for my best friend's wedding this weekend! This happy couple is getting hitched on Saturday! Can't wait to see my wonderful friends on their happy day of love!

James + Mallory

I met Mallory my first day at the OU Theta house. I had just transferred and was so nervous about making new friends. I remember she had the coolest pixie haircut and pair of glasses. I thought, "this girl is totally going to be my friend." A year later we were neighbors and partied like rock stars together! Over the years she has become one of my closest friends, Mallory gives great advice and has the best sense of humor, and she is totally one of those girls that would do anything for her friends. She is the best and will be a beautiful bride on Saturday!

This past weekend we drove up to Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. We hiked up and down the mountain trails for 3 hours and it was so much fun! We were so proud of Cami for making it up to the top and she never got tired! I was worried the mountain was too steep for her but she was basically pulling us along the trail! Thirsty Thursday! 

Last weekend we visited the MillerCoors Brewing Company in Milwaukee! We went there with Sean's sister and new hubby to see Bon Iver later that night. This tour is FREE and you get lots of beers! My kind of place! 

Fun fact: There are caves under all the buildings where beer is stored all year round. They harvest ice during the winter months and place the blocks in the cave walls to keep it cool!

Soooo our air conditioner has not been working lately in the good old Highlander, and this came at the perfect time for our trip to the super HOT state of Oklahoma. This pic is of Miss Cami in our car. We had all the windows down driving North to Chicago and everyone's hair was blowin' in the wind!
